- What is an Angiogram | TLC Vascular
WHAT IS AN ANGIOGRAM? A lower extremity angiogram is a diagnostic procedure that is used to help diagnose and treat diseased blood vessels. Through the use of a small catheter inserted into your groin or foot, and contrast imaging, the physician is able to identify blocked, damaged, or abnormal arteries in your legs. If clinically indicated, the doctor may perform: Angioplasty – using a balloon to stretch open a narrowed or blocked artery Atherectomy – “cleaning out” the plaque in the artery using a laser or rotating device Stenting – to help keep the artery open after atherectomy or angioplasty, a small tube made of wire mesh is permanently implanted in the artery to help keep the vessel open What to expect after the procedure? Our facility offers same day, outpatient procedures. This means you will be able to go home after the procedure after spending a few hours in post-care recovery with a family member, friend, or caregiver. It is normal after the procedure to experience: Bruising at the puncture site Minor swelling and soreness More detailed discharge instructions will discussed after your procedure. Benefits of an Angiogram An angiogram offers an alternative to surgery using minimally invasive techniques to help restore blood flow to your legs. After the procedure many patients experience: Resolution in cramps/pains in their legs limiting their activities of daily living Improvement in discoloration of the skin Decreased numbness/tingling in their legs and feet Accelerated healing of chronic or acute wounds Reduce the risk of amputation Our care team is always available for any questions or concerns you may have regarding your entire procedure process. We are truly honored to be a part of your care team. Thank you for entrusting us with your vascular needs! Delivering excellence. Every patient. Every time.
