A venogram is a special X-ray test that uses a contrast dye to show how blood flows through the veins. It helps doctors find blood clots, blockages, or other vein problems.
How Do Venograms Work?
Dye injection
A doctor puts a safe contrast liquid into a vein (usually in your foot, leg, or arm).
X-ray pictures
As the dye moves through your blood vessels, live X-rays (fluoroscopy) take clear pictures of the inside of your veins.
Treatment option
Sometimes, doctors can fix a blocked vein right away using a small balloon or mesh tube called a stent during the same test.
